At Reading is Magic, our mission is to promote positive reading and creative writing experiences for children and adults through vibrant community events and innovative, educational programs to help inspire, encourage, and motivate families and educators to plug into the power of reading and creative writing.
Michael Melasi (former Marine) is a dedicated husband and father of two
elementary-aged children. As the dynamic President of the Dad's Club at his
children's local school, he believes engaged fathers play a crucial role in
education. Michael has created a community where dads feel empowered to be actively
involved, organizing events like campus cleanups, golf tournaments, and local
restaurant meetings to foster connections between fathers, teachers, and the school
community.
With a wealth of experience in nonprofit management and a passion for literacy,
Michael's leadership and strategic vision have been pivotal in advancing Reading is
Magic's mission. His extensive network and experience in Hillsborough County have the
potential to expand Reading is Magic's influence and impact in Miami-Dade County. His
commitment to enriching children's educational experiences is genuinely inspiring,
ensuring every child can discover the joy of reading. Michael earned his Bachelor's
degree in Software Engineering from The University of Phoenix.
Our President and CEO Beverly Melasi-Haag truly believes that "Reading is Magic!"
With over 30 years of experience as a dedicated community leader and educator,
Beverly brings a wealth of knowledge and passion to our organization and a working
knowledge of nonprofit management.
As a published children's book author and former President of the South Florida
Writers Association, she has been instrumental in fostering a love for reading and
creative writing throughout the South Florida region. Beverly is also a creative
writing instructor who has developed numerous educational programs to empower
families, parents, and children to discover the joy and importance of reading.
Her passion for literature and commitment to community engagement drive our vision of
making reading accessible and enjoyable for everyone. Beverly earned her Bachelor's
degree in English/Writing from the Union Institute University in Cincinnati, Ohio.
Jenna is a devoted wife and mother of two elementary school children. She has years
of experience working for the Hillsborough County Public School System due to her
passion for teaching and learning. She serves as the PTSA Secretary at her children's
school and is on the School Advisory Committee. Jenna actively creates a positive
school climate, bringing together parents, teachers, students, and administration.
Her broad connections and experience in Hillsborough County have the potential to
enhance Reading is Magic's reach and impact in Miami-Dade County.
Jenna's meticulous attention to detail and financial acumen are vital to the smooth
operation of Reading is Magic. As Secretary/Treasurer, she manages our resources with
expertise and integrity, ensuring transparency and accountability in all our
endeavors. Jenna enjoys spending time with her family and engaging in activities that
promote lifelong learning. Her belief in a robust educational foundation drives her
dedication to impacting every child's future. Jenna earned her Bachelor's degree in
Communications at The University of South Florida. She also earned her Teaching
Certification in Early Education.
